Hand-dyed diaper service quality (DSQ) Indian prefolds are affordable, absorbent and pretty! If you are diapering on a tight budget, prefold diapers can be the mainstay of your diaper stash. And you will find plenty of uses for them once they're retired from diaper duty!
Prefolds are 100% unbleached hand-dyed natural cotton, with a thick center panel that is "prefolded" and sewn in place. There are 2 or 4 layers of cotton fabric on the sides and 6 or 8 layers in the middle (2x8x2 or 4x6x4). Dye is industrial-quality, fiber-reactive, and color-safe meaning that it binds to the natural fibers with minimal fading and no bleeding.
Prefolds shrink (around 10%) and "quilt up" after washing. They become softer and more absorbent with repeated washing and are not fully absorbent until they have been washed and dried at least 3-4 times. The larger and thicker the prefold, the more absorbent it will be.
Infant size are 12"x16" before washing and are 4x6x4 ply.
Prefolds can be pinned or snappi-ed in place, or they can just be folded in thirds and laid in a snug-fitting cover.
