Diaper pins are the classic way to fasten cloth diapers and can be used with flat, prefold and contour diapers under a diaper cover.
You were probably diapered with diaper pins! Pins and prefolds are the most economical way to cloth diaper.
To pin, place your fingers between the diaper and your baby's tummy and insert the pin through as many layers of fabric as neccessary. You do not have to pin through all the layers--the only objective is a diaper that doesn't fall off. Don't worry about sticking the baby! If anyone gets poked, it will be you, because your fingers are between the diaper and the baby, but you'll soon learn how to pin a folded diaper even on a wiggly baby.
Tip:
- lubricate the diaper pins by keeping them stuck in a bar of beeswax or soap while not in use. You can also run the points through your hair, close to your scalp.
- For added safety, pin diapers so the plastic head of the pin points outward on baby, not in towards his tummy.
Diaper pins are stainless steel, with a locking plastic head. Pins are sold loose in pairs.
