About Otter Blotters™
Why choose a Blotter™ when there are so many choices of cloth diapers out there?
Otter Blotters™ cloth diapers are completely unique. Otter Blotters™ are a combination of the best cloth diaper features available: snug fit, customizable absorbency, versatility, and leak resistance. No other cloth diapers are made with all the features in a Blotter™!
- Otter Blotters™ AI2s feature a patent-pending hook and loop in a front pocket design. Conventional hook and loop closures get clogged with lint, snag your clothing when you are holding your baby and are prone to snagging in the wash, even with laundry tabs. Otter Blotters™ provide the ease and fit of hook and loop, without the hassle!
- Otter Blotters™ AI2s feature wipe-clean leg gussets. Cloth diaper covers without gussets are much more prone to messy leaks, and also tend to be bulkier through the crotch. Covers with leg gussets made from microfleece or other fabric will get soiled and must be washed with every change.
- Otter Blotters™ AI2s feature a choice of durable supplex or soft minky outer fabric. Most cloth diaper covers consist of an outer layer of knit waterproof polyurethane laminate (PUL). The knit side of PUL fabric (which faces out in most diaper covers) does not withstand abrasion and is prone to pilling over time, causing your diapers to look worn and ratty. The supplex used in a Blotter™ is the same thin, soft, water-repellent and durable fabric used in surfing shorts. It wears beautifully, without fading or pilling, and adds an extra layer of water repellency in addition to a hidden PUL layer. Because supplex and minky are polyester fabrics, the wicking, leaking and shrinking that are seen with natural fiber fabrics like cotton are minimal. Cotton prints in the outer layer of diaper covers are cute, but cotton fabric will absorb and transfer moisture, causing the diaper to leak when saturated.
- Snap-down Otter Blotters™ AI2s are hybrid pocket/AI2/diaper covers and can be used in whatever way works best for you as a diapering system. Use the snap-down Blotter™ with a pocket insert for a pocket diaper, use it with an O-Pad™ or Econ-O-Pad™ for an AI2, or combine pocket and AI2 inserts for a super-absorbent night-time/nap-time diaper. Multi-size snap-down Blotters™ can even be used as a swim diaper! No other cloth diaper offers this versatility. The 2-size AI2 is a better fitting alternative to one-size diapers, which rarely fit all sizes from newborns to toddlers very well, and the multi-size option allows a very trim fit for a wide range of weights and waist sizes. Many babies will fit in a large Blotter™ from 6 months through toddler age.
- The Otter Blotters™ snap-in O-Pad™ is unlike any other cloth diaper insert. The O-Pad™ consists of an outer elasticized sleeve of soft, non-pilling, stay-dry microfleece, with a sewn-on layer of bamboo velour or other natural fiber fabric in the wet-zone, facing your baby's skin. There is a bamboo fleece doubler inside the microfleece sleeve, which is sewn on at one end, so it can be pulled out for washing, allowing thorough washing and fast drying. The O-Pad™ can be made with 1, 2 or 3 doublers, for 4, 8 or 12 layers in the wet zone, depending on which absorbency you choose (regular, extra or super absorbency). O-Pads™ can be snapped in with the more absorbent end facing either front or back, in the orientation that provides absorbency where it is needed most. Wetness is absorbed and transferred through the microfleece, into the absorbent bamboo fleece inner layers, and away from baby's skin. The bamboo fleece fabric naturally resists odors, helping to avoid the "stinkies" that cloth diapers can be prone to. One of the nicest features of the O-Pad™, though, is that it is elasticized, which means that just one size can be used with all sizes of covers, and that messes are contained in the O-Pad™, so that covers don't get soiled and can be re-used between changes.
And finally, a word about our Yamma™ fitted diapers:
- Yamma™ fitted diapers are one of the few fitted diapers available that are turned and topstitched. The cloth diapering market is saturated with fitted cloth diapers of every hue, stripe and ooga booga, and they are virtually all serger sewn. Serger finished raw edges can be irritating to sensitive skin. Yammas and Otter Blotter contour diapers are finished with turned and topstitched seams, even though this feature almost doubles the manufacturing time.
- Yamma™ diapers are a one-size, two-part cloth diaper. Instead of adapting a one-size cloth diaper for a newborn that has all the bulk and absorbency required for a toddler, Yamma™ fitteds are designed to be worn as two parts with older babies and toddlers, and as a single part with newborns and small babies. This design provides additional material and absorbency for older babies and a bulk-free diaper for newborns. Yammas™ also feature absorbent layers that are sewn in the wetzone but not in the elasticized legs and waist, which reduces bulk and speeds drying time.
